How is your library helping you in these tough economic times? Tell us your story.
Libraries are truly the "root system of our world"! I discovered this truism when at the age of 12, I became a volunteer at the Camden County Library, where my aunt was head librarian. In the 50's, you did not need a college education to hold such a position, and my aunt was one of the "first" women to become head librarian without a college degree. She was so intelligent and her love of people and books made a lasting imprint on me. Later, as a young girl in Cumberland County, I volunteered in my home town library. College came next, marriage and family and now retired I find myself coming full circle, back to my "root system", by volunteering 1 day a week, and a volunteer at "special events" at the Cherry Hill Public Library. I have been given the opportunity to meet every gender and ethnicity, young and old-all coming together to enhance thier "root system"!
The Cherry Hill Public Library avails to me the ability to come in contact with many interesting people from the author of "Rocky", a TV news anchorman and many gifted lecturers. These experiences can all be shared with everyone at any of our special events weekends! I also have met numerous artists who display their works in our library. There are many lectures, films, classes for computer programming, childrens hours, book sales, state of the art Gift Shop and of course our wonderful "snack cafe"! All of this is here for the taking at the wonderful "root building" Cherry Hill Library, where, hopefully I will meet you at the reception desk. Enrich your life, I have for may decades and many more to come, so, come join us at the most popular place in town, the CHERRY HILL LIBRARY.
