How is your library helping you in these tough economic times? Tell us your story.
"With great passion and respect, I, Gnanaseharan Selliah of Newark, NJ, would like to comment on the wonderful educational and community services rendered by the great Newark Public Library.
"There are no more important issues for the future of our communities than education and health. My family and I have seen and experienced how the libraries help the communities they serve achieve their aspirations, including a sense of community, economic development, the education of their children, safety and health, recovery from crisis, and the articulation and realization of the community's values. In this respect, Newark Public library has done and continues to do a marvelous job of molding our community in many constructive ways.
"I can't help commenting on the various significant educational programs provided by the Newark Public Library to supplement the educational needs of the school children in and around Newark. Cultural, educational, and community development programs conducted by the Newark Public Library are clear evidence of how the library takes positive steps towards developing its community.
"Among all other programs, it is worthwhile to mention about my favorite program offered by the library to the school children: Summer Reading Challenge program. Children are encouraged to read during the summer, and are recognized for their achievement at the end of the program. developing his reading and writing skills.
As a regular visitor to the First Avenue branch of the Newark Public Library, my 10 year old son, Mahishan Gnanaseharan has his own story to narrate:"
"Throughout the years, the Newark Public Library has been serving the community with pride and dignity. Every day or so I go to the Library and check out some of the various treasures I find there. No matter what mood I'm in, the Newark Public Library comforts me. You can almost say it is a second home to me. When school is over I always beg my mom to take me to the library."
"Without the existence of NPL, my son wouldn't have gone through this far in developing his reading and writing skills. My wife, Nirmala, and I will always be very much grateful to the library and keep praying for its continuous service and existence.
"On behalf of everyone, I would strongly support and assist in anyway possible to uplift the spirit of the Newark Public Library for it to continue its community services. I would also humbly request all interested parties such as donors, grant providers, and all other stakeholders to join hands and continue their financial support for the smooth running of the library."
